I was born and raised in Athens. In 1996 I was admitted to the Department of Chemistry of the University of Patras from which I graduated in 2000. Then, I pursued postgraduate studies, receiving my masters degree in 2002 and finally in 2005 I defended my Ph.D thesis titled “Synthesis of novel retinoids suitable for structure-activity relationship studies” under the supervision of Prof. D. Papaioannou. During my Ph.D studies I was granted a full scholarship (HERAKLEITOS) from the Ministry of Education and E.U. After fulfilling my military service obligation (2006-2007) and working as a R&D Chemist in the private sector in Pharmaceutical and research companies (2007-2008), I returned back to the Dept. of Chemistry where I was elected Lecturer under contract (2008-today), conducting at the same time my postdoctoral research to various aspects of Synthetic Organic Chemistry. I can speak English, French and Spanish. I am a member of the Association of Greek Chemists. My special fields of interest include synthesis, chemical modification and characterization of medicinally interesting compounds and development of multi-targeting drug delivery systems. 1. Fullerenes (drug delivery systems) 2. Nucleosides (Antibacterial drugs) 3. Retinoids (anti-psoriatic and anti-proliferative drugs in cancer chemotherapy) 4. Conjugation of medicinally interesting compounds with polyamines (acitretin, minoxidil) 5. Artemisinin Analogs (Antimalarial activity)
